Today I experimented for the very first time with AlbumStomp (for those of you guys already using BlogStomp this won’t be a tough transition at all). For years I’ve struggled with album design. While I’m a creative and love doing creative things, designing an actual album from scratch and doing layouts has never been something I’ve been interested in. And because of that, I’ve struggled to really excel at creating amazing looking albums.
That stops here. My brides deserve to have gorgeous, amazingly laid out designs that look timeless and beautiful for years. I want the quality of my albums to match the quality of my work. Knowing this is a part of my business that I’ve fallen short in the past I decided that I would find ways to help make the process easier while still delivering an amazing product.
When I heard of AlbumStomp I was instantly intrigued and knew that it could potentially be exactly what I needed for my business. I started with the free trial and immediately opened up the software and felt like I already knew what to do. The first thing you do is set up your dimensions and then you get started. I thought there would be a bit of a learning curve but it’s actually quite simple (just like BlogStomp). All you do is drag and drop the images (one or many) that you want to use in a design to either the left/right or middle of the page (for a full spread). From there you just let AlbumStomp do it’s magic and it comes up with beautiful design layout for you sans ALL THE HARD WORK. If you don’t like the layout or how the images are arranged you can click “M ix It Up” or look at the right-hand generic name of synthroid sidebar for other designs available with your number of images.
When you’re done you just click “Stomp it” to save your lower-res proofs to show your client (or photo friends for feedback). Do note that the images in the slideshow below have a watermark from AlbumStomp because I was still using the trial when I “stomped” them. Once you upgrade it won’t be there anymore.
Trust me, it was SUPER easy (and fun!)!! I actually found myself smiling and having a good time while designing this album and it’s normally a very stressful process for me since I have struggled so much in the past.
Did I have any hangups or see anything for improvement? Well, I did have a couple small issues when I would Stomp the entire album. But honestly I think the issue was the speed of my computer. I’ve been meaning to get more RAM on my computer and since I haven’t done that yet I think it contributed to the slow load times and issues I was having while trying to export the proofs. So no real worries there yet. The only other thing I noticed was that some of the layouts don’t center that well on their own unless you force center them. Once I actually make a test album I will know for sure if it makes a difference, but as a perfectionist I could see small white borders that were not quite perfect so I kept attempting to center them to make them better.
Overall, THUMBS UP! I actually am enjoying this part of my business again. So I know for sure I’ll be investing in this product and I can’t wait to see how they make it even better with time.
